Family Camp!

Hello Pack 100 families:

Family Camp is just 3 weeks away. The schedule/program is on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19.  Friday, May 17th is optional.

The campsite is Long Valley Work Center Group Campground and is about 35 miles northeast of Payson, and is the same campsite as we’ve gone to the past two years (for those that have been there). In the attachment “2013Family camp Handout” there is a map and directions. In that same handout is also a suggested camping checklist, the schedule for camp and the menu.

There is a fee of $15 per person (maximum $75), which helps the Pack pay for the extra port-o-toilets, food, craft costs, the campsite and other incidentals. We need to have a completed medical form for each person attending, form is attached. You may already have done some of these, you can check with your den leader to be sure.

Our theme this year is HANDS-ON DISCOVERY. We have some great activities planned: a compass/orienteering course (provided by the Boy Scouts), leatherworking crafts, 1st aid and relay, obstacle course and camping songs. As well as the famed end of year advancement and bridging ceremonies- you won’t want to miss! See the full schedule on the “handout” attachment.  If you are interesting in helping at one of these stations at camp, please let us know. We have not scheduled an actual free time “slot” this year, because it is built into the schedule overall. For instance, we have 1 ½ hours scheduled for lunch- it won’t take that long for lunch; and two hours for dinner, etc.

The pack will provide lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. The menu is in the “handout” attachment. We expect each family(adult) to help on a kitchen duty and it has been predetermined that the Tigers and Web 1s will prepare and serve lunch and the Wolves and Bears will prepare and serve dinner. The Troop comes over and prepares and serves breakfast, so the Web 2s will end up helping with that. The Pack will only be providing water, coffee and hot chocolate. If you would like other beverages or snacks, please bring them. Sodas and other sugary drinks are DISCOURAGED because they attract bees. If you must bring those kinds of drinks, please use bottles with lids. Everyone should have a refillable bottle for water!

The campsite does not have running water or a trash receptacle. Therefore, we haul water in and pack trash out. So, we ask each family to bring 5 gallons of water for their personal use and also bring a couple of trash bags for their personal trash “haul out”. This is also on the suggesting camping list.

Please take a look at the attached files below for all the information you need to know.

PS. Please fill out your medical forms and get to your den leader ASAP: http://www.scouting.org/sitecore/content/home/healthandsafety/ahmr.aspx
