Pack Audubon Tour

posted Feb 5, 2013, 12:27 PM by Sean Bridges
This Saturday, January 26th, our Pack meeting will be at Audubon Arizona starting at 9:30 am.

The address is 3131 South Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85040. Here is a link to a map and directions: http://mapq.st/XBbTYQ  On the directions, at the end it says to make a u-turn, which is not correct... once you are on Central and cross the river, take the first left- it leads right into the Audubon Center. Keep your eye out for it as your crossing the bridge, because people miss it all the time- it is a rust colored building set back off of Central- it does have Audubon on the side facing Central, so that helps!

It takes about 25 minutes to get there (from the Church); please make every effort to be on-time (or even early) so we can get started right AT 9:30.

Here is what you need to know:
  • We will be learning how to properly use binoculars (focusing, etc.). If you have your own, please bring them; Audubon has some loaners, but not enough for all kids and adults.
  • Then we will go on a nature walk. Wear Class A and appropriate shoes (no flip flops or sandals), bring a water bottle or camelpack, and wear a hat.
  • The temperature is going to drop down a little on Saturday (high 64, low 55); so dress accordingly. There may also be some light rain, so a poncho might be a good idea. If the rain is really coming down, we'll move it inside - there are lots of activities they can do with us inside. In other words... still come out, because we will have fun:)
  • On the nature walk, we'll look for birds and learn about other animals that are in the area.
  • Optional things to bring: camera, field guide, binoculars (already mentioned above), sack/picnic lunch- there is a fridge if you need it (see below)
  • We are scheduled to be done by 11:30

You may bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the end of the activities. Some dens have planned to stay later to picnic and/or to work on other achievements/requirements.
