Your scout will be receiving their Pinewood derby cars this week from their den leaders. Our pack car cutting night is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm at the SPC. They can arrive anytime in this period to have assistance with getting their cars cut.

To prepare for this event, the scouts should have a clear idea of how they would like to design their cars. Attached is a design template that they can use to help. Once they have a design, they will draw on their block of wood the design that they want and hand it off to an adult to cut.

We promote having the scouts design and do as much work as is in their abilities. For parents and siblings wishing to make their own cars, we will have an Open Class race the night of the derby where anyone can participate!  You can purchase extra car kits for $5 from your den leader.  Note, that Open Class cars can weigh up to 7oz, but all other rules apply.

Car registration and check-in will happen on Wednesday March 19th at 6pm. We will be weighing in everyone's cars and have a test track setup for some mock racing. Your car will be impounded at check-in pending the actual race on Friday.

Our Derby race is Friday, March 21st at 5pm at the SPC. We will have dinner and snacks for purchase at the church snack bar. Medals will be given to the top 3 racers in each rank. This event is

You can find our official rules here. You can ignore the start times listed there, but the car specifications are the same. If you have ANY questions about rules you can contact Cubmaster Gilly, David Lew, or myself for clarifications.

Some points to be sure of:
  1. Car cannot be heavier than 5oz
  2. We must be able to see each end of the axle nails
  3. The front of the car can not be notched in.  The track has pins that hold the car at the starting line that sit in the front middle.  The car body must be entirely behind these pins when resting.
Derby questions can be directed to our derby mailling list at: derby@pack100isthebest.org.

I hope everyone is looking forward to seeing all the great cars our kids will make and another great pack 100 derby race!
